US Navy starts its official blog

The US Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus, inaugurated the US Navy’s official blog recently : http://navylive.dodlive.mil/

The effort seems refreshing in the military blogosphere more so in the light of the free and frank discussion between various participants including the Secretary. An example can be seen by clicking here.

The blog seems in line with the thought process of militaries of (mostly) democracies in shedding the cloak (or more appropriately the burden) of secrecy, especially on societal and administrative issues. Such a medium is at times considered essential keeping in view the fact that sometimes the pulse of service-members does not reach the right levels of the hierarchy due to layers and layers of officialdom and red-tape.

The US Navy is available officially also on twitter, flickr, youtube and facebook.

Way to go.

An Indian Army BLOG with registered email ids of Officers will be a gr8 gr8 opportunity to discuss so many things, so freely and with absolute accountability, as the registration of email id SHOULD be with IP address of the registered PC/laptop of the respective officer.

"IT IQ"...is necessary for such things to get a platform in INDIA where every thing will get connected with unnecessary security concerns..those who don't know what is a blog will cry for "security,security........",still a long way i feel to get official here..though will be a good platform to share views!!

@ Anony above

My Dear Sir,

We already have a Dreamer's Club on Army Intranet for this purpose. Have you ever seen the replies to those suggestions/dreams? You will be surprised by the kind of 'attitude' displayed by our own high and mighty. The replies are either NOT given for ages, if given, these are plain dismissive or evasive. There are suggestions which have been there since 2006/07 and NOT yet replied to ( and I am saying this because this has happened with my own self!)

And come on what is their in our Biggies' hands? Be realistic!

A better idea would be to have a blog started by MoD so that they have first hand knowledge about the Soldiers feelings/ideas/suggestions on issues concerning them. And they (MoD Mandarins) are the ones who can really bring about a positive change, if they so desire!

Hope RM is listening!

Dear Navdeep
I agree that one should keep pace with the times. but there are some fields that one got to be cautious when dealing with cyber security that too in armed forces. You will agree that any blog is can be misused by the enemies of the Nation and through it the defense network due to negligence by any service blogger.Army has it's Official website in its intranet. I do-not think it either desirable or necessary. ID. Jai Hind

One side govt has issued orders that Hav granted Hony Rank will be given MINIMUM pension RS 7750 equivalent to Nb sub. WHICH IS MINIMUM OF PAYBAND OF NB SUB +GRADE PAY +MSP WHICH COMES TO RS 7750 EXCLUDING DA

Dear Navdeep YOU HAD GIVEN A POST ON THIS BUT THAT WAS BEFORE COS REPORT I WOULD REQUEST TO CLARIFY WHAT IS THE STATUS NOW AS NOT EVEN SINGLE HONORARY NB SUB IS GETTING THE PENSION OF NB SUB IN MY UNIT I THINK THE ISSUE REQUIRES YOUR CONSIDERATION

THE BIGGEST BLUNDER EVER DONE BY MOD, PCDA(P) & CGDA HAS COME TO LIGHT. WHILE PREPARING TABLES FOR DIFFERENT CATEGORY OF PBORS ABOVE SGT/HAV RANK THE TABLES HAVE BEEN COPIED IN WHICH EXISTING PENSION SHOULD HAVE BEEN EXTENDED FOR FULL AS THERE IS NO SUCH RESTRICTION IN CASE OF JWO/NB SUB & ABOVE. THIS WILL RESULT IN HUGE MISMATCH CASES. I DON'T NO WHY ALL THESE AUTHORITIES ARE STEEL SLEEPING ON THE ISSUE. I AM GIVING ONE EXAMPLE PLEASE CHECK THE PENSION FOR "JWO, Y-GROUP, RETIRED IN 1998, WITH 28 & ABOVE YEAR OF SERVICE, EXISTING PENSION 4070, PENSION WEF 01/01/06 9199" HIS PENSION WEF 01/07/09 SHOULD BE 10675 WHICH IS ALSO THERE IN TABLE BUT NO EXISTING PENSION IS GIVEN IN THE TABLES.
